Historical context

Nero ruled Rome from 54 to 68 CE, his denarii struck primarily at Lugdunum and Rome before his fall. The famous 64 CE coinage reform reduced the denarius to roughly 90% silver, beginning the gradual debasement of Imperial currency. Reverses celebrating Salus or Jupiter were standard responses to the political instability of his later years.
