Description

This sturdy bronze ring displays a circular bezel engraved with a quatrefoil—four rounded petals radiating from a central point. The motif, deeply rooted in Gothic art, represented luck, unity, and divine order. Its four lobes were often associated with the elements, seasons, or virtues, making it a spiritual as well as decorative symbol. The ring’s robust shoulders and smooth green patina speak to both craftsmanship and age.

Historical Context
The quatrefoil was one of the most recognizable motifs in Gothic art and architecture, embodying divine balance and the union of earthly and spiritual realms. Rings engraved with this design were worn by both laypersons and clergy as expressions of faith and protection. Common throughout Europe during the High and Late Middle Ages, such rings exemplify the refined symbolism of medieval craftsmanship and devotion.
