Description

This medieval bronze signet ring features a scalloped, lobed flat bezel engraved with a dense cross hatched geometric pattern of intersecting diagonal lines. The engraving is shallow but deliberate, with consistent spacing that indicates intentional decorative cutting rather than later abrasion. The narrow, plain hoop joins the bezel directly at a near right angle, a construction logic typical of medieval signet rings rather than Roman integrated forms. Stable patination and mineral accretions are consistent with age and use.

Historical Context
Flat, lobed bezels with abstract geometric engraving are characteristic of medieval personal signet rings used as individual marks rather than formal heraldry. Cross hatched patterns provided clear recognition in wax without inscriptions or figures. Rings of this type were common among merchants, craftsmen, and local officials across medieval Europe, reflecting a practical sealing tradition distinct from Roman intaglio based jewelry.
