Description

This early medieval bronze ring features a raised decorative bezel with a central oval motif surrounded by punched dot ornament. The ring is cast in one piece with a thick shank and a layered bezel profile. The abstract decoration and construction point away from Roman Imperial traditions and align more closely with Byzantine or early medieval craftsmanship. Surface wear and patina are consistent with long use and age.

Historical Context
Raised bezels with punched dot ornament appear across Late Antique and early medieval contexts, particularly in regions influenced by Byzantine metalworking traditions. Such abstract designs served as personal identifiers or protective symbols rather than formal heraldry. Bronze rings of this type were worn by civilians and local officials and reflect the continuity of symbolic geometry during the transition from the Roman world to medieval Europe.
