Description
This Islamic bronze ring, named Rashid, dates to the late medieval to early modern period (13th-16th century CE). The flat oval bezel is engraved with four elongated vertical strokes, resembling pseudo-Kufic script-a style commonly used in Islamic decorative arts to evoke spiritual and aesthetic depth without forming readable text. The patina and surface corrosion suggest it was long buried and naturally aged.

Historical Context:
During the 13th-16th centuries, Ottoman and Islamic territories produced a wide variety of rings blending function, identity, and ornament. The pseudo-Kufic script seen on Rashid was often used to mimic Arabic inscriptions, invoking the perceived power and prestige of the written word without conveying a specific message. Rings like this one were worn as personal talismans or status objects and are frequently found across Anatolia and the Balkans-regions heavily influenced by Islamic and Byzantine aesthetics.
