Description
This Islamic bronze ring, named Tariq, dates to the late medieval to early modern period (circa 14th-18th century CE). Featuring a long oval bezel engraved with highly stylized Arabic script-likely intended for use as a personal seal-the ring reflects both functional and spiritual roles within Islamic society. The fluid script resembles Naskh or Thuluth styles, and although partially eroded by time, hints at Qur'anic verses or protective phrases. A greenish patina and wear pattern indicate long burial and authentic age.

Historical Context:
Seal rings like Tariq were widespread across the Islamic world, valued not only as decorative objects but also as personal identifiers and spiritual tokens. The Arabic script-possibly invoking divine names or protection-was designed to be pressed into wax or clay, leaving behind a meaningful impression. This style, seen throughout Ottoman Turkey, Mamluk Egypt, and North Africa, was especially popular among literate individuals such as merchants, clerics, or scholars. Their rings functioned as both tools and talismans, merging faith, function, and identity in a single object.
