Description
This solid bronze ring features a broad, domed bezel engraved with the standing figure of Fortuna, goddess of fortune and fate. She holds a long cornucopia in her arms, with a faint rudder beside her—symbols of prosperity and direction. Historical Context
Fortuna, known to the Greeks as Tyche, was one of the most venerated deities of the Roman world. Her cornucopia symbolized abundance, while her rudder represented the hand of fate guiding human fortune. Rings depicting Fortuna were worn by merchants, officials, and soldiers alike, invoking prosperity and safe passage through life’s uncertainties. Provincial workshops across Gaul and the Rhineland produced many such signet rings, blending personal devotion with practical use as seals of identity.
